What is the RESSOURCE Project MOOC?

This massive open online course (MOOC) has been developed in French and is accessible on the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Programme on African Protected Areas and Conservation platform (MOOC Conservation.org)

Enroll now!

The MOOC includes approximately 40 hours of learning (with 35 animated sequences, ten video interviews, more than 5 000 bird photos and 219 species identification factsheets).

The MOOC will equip students with the essential skills for international waterbird monitoring, expand a network of trained observers in Africa, and help integrate waterbird training into academic curricula. During the first phase (2017-2022) of the RESSOURCE Project (the Sahelian wetlands site of the SWM Programme) over 150 professionals from national governments and local communities were trained in waterbird identification and census techniques, as well as wetland management. To sustain and expand this capacity building effort, the RESOURCE Project developed the MOOC with Tour du Valat and the French Biodiversity Agency, and with financing from French Facility for Global Environment (FFEM) and the European Union.
An English version of the course will be released in the future.
