FAOs forecast for global paddy production in 2006 has been downgraded by 2 million tonnes from last report and now stands at 635 million tonnes, marginally above the 2005s level. World cereal production in 2006 is forecast to decline marginally from last year’s good level. Wheat output is expected to decrease reflecting smaller crops in the United States and the CIS in Europe, due to adverse weather.
