The latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) analysis for Gaza confirms that no areas of the Strip are currently classified in famine following the October ceasefire and improved humanitarian and commercial access. This welcome progress remains extremely fragile as the population continues to struggle with massive infrastructure destruction and collapsed livelihoods and local food production, given restrictions on humanitarian operations.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) joined the Arab Parliament and the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (LAS) in a regional workshop aimed at advancing Arab legislation to reduce food loss and waste across the region. The workshop convened representatives from regional and international organizations, including UN ESCWA, the Regional Food Banks Network, and the Arab Federation for Food Industries (AFFI), alongside members of the Arab Parliament, technical experts, and specialists in food security and sustainable development. FAO participated at a high level and contributed technical expertise to support regional efforts to strengthen sustainable agrifood systems.

three-day Regional Core Training on Livestock Emergency Guidelines and Standards (LEGS) was successfully held in Cairo, Egypt, from 11 to 13 November 2025. The event brought together 23 participants from nine countries across the Near East and North Africa region: Algeria, Iraq, Jordan, Mauritania, Morocco, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, and Yemen. Participants included government nominees, national veterinary staff, and FAO technical personnel, demonstrating a strong regional commitment to enhancing livestock emergency preparedness and response.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) and the Women Development Organization (WDO), convened a High-Level Regional Dialogue on Women’s Empowerment and Access to Finance for Advancing Circular Agriculture in the Arab Region, under the patronage of H.E. Prof. Saeb Khraisat, Minister of Agriculture of Jordan. The event brought together five ministers and high-level representatives from Ministries of Agriculture across the region, along with policymakers, development partners, financial institutions, private sector representatives, and women entrepreneurs from different countries to explore gender-responsive financing solutions that promote women’s leadership in sustainable and circular agriculture.

The latest analysis of food insecurity and malnutrition in Sudan shows stark contrasts along conflict lines, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP) and UNICEF warned today. In areas where violence has subsided – allowing humanitarian access and market recovery – food security has begun to improve. But in conflict-hit locations that have been largely cut off from humanitarian assistance or under siege, famine has now taken hold. 

The agencies call for an end to hostilities and safe, unimpeded and sustained humanitarian access, which is urgently needed to prevent further loss of life and protect livelihoods.
