6 April 2005--Desert Locusts in North Africa: under control but vigilance required.
Fresh reports say that swarms'eggs are hatching in northeastern Algeria. Morocco, Algeria and northern Tunisia could be the locusts' next targets but the situation is under control, reassures Keith Cressman, expert in FAO Emergency Centre for Locust Operations (Rome).

During this anti-locust campaign, FAO will try a new pesticide called Metarhizium (Metarhizium anisopliae), a naturally occurring fungus that attacks only Desert Locust. Keith Cressman explains:
