These initiatives address local and global consumer concerns, relying on social values and partnerships to promote system innovations. Public sector involvement is crucial for sustainable agriculture efforts.

Inland fisheries are vital for global food security, especially in developing countries, providing essential nutrients to millions. However, inadequate data and policy neglect endanger their sustainability. The FAO and Michigan State University's 2015 conference outlined 10 crucial steps to safeguard inland fisheries, aiming to address these challenges and secure their future.

Mountain soils are vital for agriculture and ecosystem functions, supporting food security for millions. Yet, they face threats from climate change, deforestation, and unsustainable practices, leading to degradation and disasters. However, mountain communities possess indigenous knowledge and practices crucial for resilience. This publication highlights the importance of mountain soils, their challenges, and showcases lessons learned and recommendations for sustainable development.

This publication aims at contributing to the overall development of the Feeding Knowledge Programme, by reporting on the work done under its Priority 5: “Mediterranean food consumption patterns: diet, environment, society, economy and health”. The Feeding Knowledge Programme has been developed by CIHEAM-Bari, in cooperation with the Politecnico of Milan, in the framework of the 2015 Milan Universal Exposition, the theme of which is: Feeding the planet, energy for life.

The “Regional Initiative for Dryland Management” was designed to bring together technical experts from Israel and Arab countries in an attempt to build bridges of confidence among conflicting parties, bridges that would eventually facilitate rapprochement and ultimately peace. The Initiative’s objective was to bring experts together to discuss technical issues of mutual interest, in this case dryland management and desertification.
