The participation of pastoralists in policy dialogues has to be structured in transparent, visible and democratic ways. The governance and transparency of processes inside pastoralist organizations have a direct influence on how the representation of pastoralists at the international arena is achieved. The bottom-up local structuring is also key to how the international community views pastoralist participation.

Key dialogue forums are pastoralist gatherings such as the ones held in Interlaken (Switzerland) in 2007, Segovia (Spain) in 2007, Mera (India) in 2010 and Kiserian (Kenya) in 2013.
