Uzbekistan stands at the forefront of a transformative journey toward sustainable agriculture, driven by its commitment to fostering a green economy. Anchored in comprehensive national strategies and policies, the country aims to reshape its agrifood systems to ensure food security, enhance resource efficiency, and mitigate environmental impacts. This transition aligns with global sustainability goals and reflects Uzbekistan’s proactive approach to addressing the challenges of climate change and resource scarcity.

Central to these efforts is the Green Economy Strategy (2019–2030), approved under Presidential Decree No. PD-4477. Implemented by the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction, the strategy outlines a roadmap for sustainable development.

National Green Taxonomy in Uzbekistan
Key directions of green economy transition in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan’s National Green Taxonomy is a cornerstone of the country’s strategy to transition to a green economy by 2030. Developed by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the taxonomy provides a comprehensive classification system for identifying and categorizing “green” economic activities. It establishes clear criteria to evaluate whether specific activities align with sustainable development goals, including environmental protection, resource efficiency, and climate resilience.
