Modernizing Irrigation Improved Water Security for Farmers in Egypt

The objective of the Project is to improve water resources and agricultural management and planning within and across the beneficiary Countries, based on qualitative and spatial-based decision making tools. The project was consistent with the national priorities of each of Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia to improve the sustainability of water resources management. It is also consistent with the Regional Center for Remote Sensing of Water Resources in North African States (CRTEAN) goals and priorities.

The program forms part of the World Bank Arab World Initiative (AWI), which emphasizes cooperative regional solutions to major challenges such as water resource management, food security and climate change nexus. Indeed, this is the first project being presented to the Board under AWI.
