National action plan (NAP) to combat lost, abandoned or discarded fishing gear at sea
The Senegal Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Economy (Ministère des Pêches et de l’Économie maritime) has completed the development of the "National Action Plan to Combat Abandoned, Lost, and Discarded Fishing Gear, Lost or Discarded at Sea- NPOA" with the support of the FAO as part of its responsible fishing operations work plan . The NPOA was disseminated among stakeholders and national authorities through a workshop organized by the Ministry on 7 December 2022, which gathered 28 representatives and stakeholders from the government, fisheries sector, NGOs, and civil society. This NPOA will serve as a reference framework for initiatives targeted the pollution caused by certain types of solid waste, such as gear, mostly from fishing activities conducted at sea and along the coast.
