Open Meeting of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Food Security, Agriculture and Rural Statistics (UN-CEAG) 2023

Hybrid Event, 16/02/2023

Co-organized by the United Nations Committee of Experts on Food Security, Agriculture and  Rural Statistics (UN-CEAG) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on the sidelines of the 54th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission, the event took stock of the latest developments and progress in implementing the UN-CEAG's programme of work (2020-2023) and discussed additional topics of interest in the area of food security and agricultural statistics.

The session was open to UN-CEAG member and non-member organizations and consisted of an interactive discussion to:

  • discuss progress made in the implementation of the work programme (2020-2023), in particular the preliminary results achieved by the UN-CEAG task teams on 1) Food security and food consumption measurement; 2) National quality assurance framework for agricultural statistics; and 3) Use of Earth Observation data for agricultural statistics;
  • provide comments and direction on the activities and outputs of the various task teams and agree on the proposed additional consultation mechanisms and timelines; and
  • discuss additional topics of interest in the areas of food security, agriculture and rural statistics relevant to the work of the UN-CEAG that could be included in its programme of work.
