Timor-Leste

FAO has been active in Timor-Leste since 1999. Following independence in 2002, Timor-Leste became a Member of FAO in 2003. Collaboration between FAO and Timor-Leste has strengthened since, supporting the development of more productive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems and improved livelihoods. As of today, over 115 projects and programmes have been implemented by FAO throughout Timor-Leste.
The FAO Timor-Leste team consists of dedicated national and international professionals based in Dili and across municipalities. Working closely with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Forestry (MALFF) and partners, the team supports efforts to strengthen food security, nutrition and sustainable agrifood systems in Timor-Leste.

Our Leadership

Mr. Rajendra Aryal – FAO Representative to Indonesia and Timor-Leste


Mr. Rajendra Aryal was appointed FAO Representative to Indonesia and Timor-Leste in 2021. He has been with FAO since 2003, holding several positions including FAO Representative in Afghanistan, Deputy Representative in South Sudan, and Representative a.i. in Sri Lanka, Maldives and the Philippines. He holds a master’s degree in civil and Infrastructure Engineering from Leibnitz University, Germany, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the National Institute of Technology, India.
