Technical Workshop on Land Productivity Trend Maps

The workshop will be organized on 5-6 August 2020 via Zoom. During the event, stakeholders and academics will come together to discuss and compare different land productivity trend maps of Upper Sakarya Basin and gather expert knowledge regarding the drivers of degradation and land improvement.  The participants will also talk on potential site-specific Sustainable Land Management practices. This event will be conducted within the scope of “Contributing to Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) Target Setting by Demonstrating the LDN Approach in the Upper Sakarya Basin for Scaling up at National Level” project which is financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

In this context, the workshop will be based on the methodology proposed by Teich et al. (2019). The methodology is based on

i. Comparing and analyzing six different primary productivity trend maps of Upper Sakarya Basin obtained from the time series of the Terra Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) NDVI data (2000–2018) in order to choose the most representative map for the region according to expert knowledge and

ii. Identifying the main drivers of change and the more appropriate SLMs to implement in a selected number of sites with strong negative trends (hotspots of potential land degradation) and strong positive trends (potential hotspots of land improvement)
