South-South Cooperation (SSC): Sharing Asia’s Development Experience and Technical Knowhow to Promote Sustainable Development
The Asia Pacific region has accumulated highly appropriate technical knowhow and a diverse set of experiences in strategies and policies related to rural poverty, agricultural development, trade and institutional development. Many, but not all, countries in the region have gained middle income status within a short period of time with substantial poverty alleviation. Many countries within and outside the region, impressed by the phenomenal success of these Asian middle-income countries, are keen to adopt and build on successful experiences and technical knowhow. SSC allows countries not only to understand the policies, technical know-how and institutions behind the success, but also the processes and mechanisms involved in their development, implementation and institutionalization. The SSC side event aims to solicit political support and encourage countries to engage in SSC in support of sustainable poverty alleviation by sharing tested policy and institutional experiences and technical knowhow.
