Activity

Access to knowledge and education about the effective use of controlled vocabularies and semantic technologies is crucial in tackling the food security and nutrition challenges. Through the use of knowledge sharing activities such as webinars, online courses, publications and community meetings, AGROVOC strives to build the capacities of stakeholders, by increasing awareness of the use of AGROVOC to enhance the accessibility and visibility of information and data, with a particular focus on agriculture and related sciences. The AGROVOC capacity development activities target individuals and institutions who are interested in controlled vocabularies and SKOS, who may wish to use AGROVOC or improve its usage; and to contribute to AGROVOC either through the AGROVOC Editorial Community or as part of a Community of Experts.

Webinars

AGROVOC periodically organizes free webinars for all interested parties on a variety of information/data/knowledge management topics, including but not limited to: Controlled Vocabulary, semantics, linked open data, big data, open tools and standards supporting stewardship of information and data in agricultural and other domains.

Publications

The AGROVOC team endeavours to publish and document the work done in the context of standards, technology and good practices in the agricultural domain.  The publications include conference papers, journal papers, book chapters, technical reports, manuals and are deposited into the FAO Document Repository and the open access repository dedicated to E-prints in Library and Information Science, e-LIS.

Meetings

AGROVOC is a collaborative effort: national and international institutions volunteer to be responsible for different language versions and subject domains as part of the editorial community. Since 2019, AGROVOC has been expanding its coverage through collaboration with communities of experts to include specialized domains that can benefit from the AGROVOC infrastructure. The AGROVOC team organizes periodical in-person and virtual meetings with the editorial community and community of experts to maintain and coordinate all contributions to AGROVOC.

Online Courses

Very soon the AGROVOC Team will announce the publication of the AGROVOC Massive Open Online Course.

Concept of the Month

Concept of the Month is an activity launched in the beginning of 2021, as one outcome of the AGROVOC meeting in January 2021. The objective is to engage with the editorial community and to highlight the linguistic diversity of AGROVOC. We publish concepts proposed by partner institutions monthly. If your institution wishes to propose a concept, please let us know!
