Viet Nam's Department of Animal Health Hosts EAHMI's Second Tripartite Review Meeting in Ha Noi, 25 February 2012

Dr. Hoang Van Nam, Director General of Viet Nam's Department of Animal Health welcomed more than 20 participants to EAHMI's second Tripartite Review Meeting in Ha Noi on 25 February 2012, including project staff and national representatives from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines and Viet Nam, as well as the project's implementation agency, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations, and the donor, the Government of Italy.

Messages from project stakeholders were given by: Ms. Barbara Bregato, Deputy Director General, Italian Development Cooperation, representing the Government of Italy; Ms. Yuriko Shoji, FAO Representative to Vietnam; Ms. Hmway Hmway Khyne, Counsellor of Myanmar Embassy in Vietnam; Ms. Maria Lourdes Salcedo, First Secretary and Consul of Embassy of the Philippines in Vietnam; and Mr. Phutsakhon Sengmaniphon, Attaché Economic and Commercial of the Embassy of Lao PDR in Vietnam.

Reviews of the background and objectives of the project, its progress and achievements and the future plans of the five participating countries were presented by FAO staff from Bangkok and Rome, the Project Coordinator, Regional Focal Point and National Focal Point Officers.

The Review Mission commended the project for its progress, achievements and focus on capacity building, collaboration, information sharing and advocacy for evidence-based decision making, planning and policy formulation. The Mission also endorsed the expansion of the project to include Myanmar and Viet Nam and its extension until June 2013.
