En el contexto del Año Internacional de la Agricultura Familiar 2014 (AIAF), la FAO y la Asociación Mundial de Radios Comunitarias (AMARC) han lanzado una campaña de sensibilización dirigida a las asociaciones de campesinos y la población rural. El principal objetivo es utilizar la radio comunitaria como plataforma para compartir información con la comunidad agrícola e involucrarla más a fondo en el debate sobre el papel clave que desempeña la agricultura familiar en el desarrollo económico y social.

Family farming is the backbone of Africa
During the African Regional Dialogue on Family Farming (November 2013, Cape Town, South Africa), participants identified specific actions for effective and sustainable collaboration that achieve food and nutrition security in the continent. Additionally, participants recognized family farming as a way of life that contributes to the intergenerational transmission of knowledge, preservation of the environment, natural resources and cultural heritage.

Family poultry production - Socio-cultural aspects of family poultry
The video is describing the importance of family poultry production in particular for smallholders and how to consider influences of season and gender roles in promoting better husbandry and improved management practices. Examples are given how to prepare and design appropriate extension messages that are clear and could be easily understood by family poultry producers. The content of the video was prepared by Brigitte Bagnol for Associate Poultry Advisers as part of a training programme that was organized by FAO in cooperation with IFAD.
