FRA Country reporting process

Since 2005, the backbone of FRA is the country reporting process where the best available and most recent information from all countries and territories is compiled and analyzed.

FAO is therefore requesting all countries to elaborate and submit a comprehensive report following a standardized format and methodology. Reports are prepared by officially nominated National Correspondents and submit to FAO.

FRA 2020, following the recommendations from the Seventh Expert Consultation on FRA, held in Joensuu, Finland in June 2017, was adapted, both in terms of scope and reporting periodicity, to better respond to recent developments in the international forest policy arena, such as the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, United Nations Strategic Plan for Forests 2017-2030 (UNSPF) and the Paris agreement. Furthermore, a new on-line reporting platform has been developed to make the reporting more efficient and to decrease countries’ reporting burden. National correspondents received guidance and technical assistance for the compilation of their Country Reports through the online Platform at the Global technical meeting in Mexico and at the regional and sub-regional workshops.

National data provided by the National Correspondents and their collaborators will be analyzed to derive estimates on the status and trend of the world’s forest resources. The results of the analysis as well as the complete set of data collected by FRA 2020 will be made available by mid 2020.
