First in-person meeting of the Global-Hub

Between the 28th of February and the 3rd of March 2023, FAO hosted the first in-person meeting of the Global-Hub on Indigenous Peoples Food Systems. The meeting has been the occasion to discuss on the role and the activities of the Global-Hub for the period 2023-2025, and identify concrete ways forwards.

 

The meeting brought together:

• 80 participants in-person and online

• Indigenous experts from 22 different Indigenous communities from across the world

• 20 universities, research centres and institutes

• 10 Indigenous Peoples organizations

• 3 local organizations working with Indigenous Peoples

• 4 knowledge networks

• 8 FAO Members and representations

• 8 UN Bodies


The main outcome of the meeting was the establishment of five drafting committees and three working groups to advance on the issues discussed during the meeting.

 

Drafting committees:

• Standard of practices to guide ecosystem restoration

• Co-creation of knowledge and good research practices

• Wiphala paper on mobile Indigenous Peoples and associated livelihoods, and collective rights over land, territories and natural resources

• Indigenous Peoples and indicators of poverty

• Food based dietary guidelines/food security/nutrition

 

During the meeting 11 new members and 2 PhD candidates joined the Global-hub.
