2016 Ghana Ecosystem Survey: Ghana Fisheries

7 July 2016, Ghana--- In April this year the research vessel Dr Fridtjof Nansen carried out an ecosystem survey in Ghanaian waters starting with a high-level visit to the vessel by the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, officials of the Norwegian Embassy in Ghana and colleagues of RAFR and FAO-Ghana. The survey ended successfully on 20th April 2016. From 5 to 7 July 2016 a post survey meeting was held in Accra, Ghana. On 7 July, the results of the survey were officially presented to the Ghanaian authorities and stakeholders.

Ndiaga Gueye, Senior Fishery Officer, Regional Office for Africa, tells more about the now legally binding international Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA) which will serve as one of the tools countries can use to strengthen the sustainability of their fisheries sectors. The PSMA treaty recently entered into force on the 5 June 2016. (Interview conducted by Liliane Kambirigi).
