The direct involvement of local authorities in food security matters (Committee on
The ?Douala Declaration", was signed on 23 March 2005 by all local authorities of Cameroon in Douala, at the end of a workshop organized under FAO auspices. In this unprecedented Declaration, Cameroon's local authorities state their determination to play a more active and technically sound role in enhancing the food security of local populations.

Improving the efficiency of food supply and distribution activities carried out by private sector operators is also a major objective, says marketing economist Olivio Argenti who attended the Douala ceremony, last March. He tells us about the meaning of that event for others parts of Africa and the world:
