African countries yield positive results thanks to the Purchase from Africans for Africa initiative, that adapts the Brazilian successful school feeding model and public food procurement from family farmers 20 October 2016, Rome. Since 2014 Brazil no longer features on the World Hunger Map. Its powerful National School Feeding Programme, within the framework of the national Zero Hunger programme, has been key in eradicating hunger. A novel way of tackling Africa’s hunger and poverty challenges
The Africa Solidarity Trust Fund (ASTF) is pioneering a new approach to funding. Administered by FAO and in line with its Strategic Framework, the ASTF is the first fund by Africans for Africans.  The ASTF, by pooling resources from Africa’s strongest economies as well as from Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to support national and regional food security initiatives within the Comprehensive African Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP) framework, currently focuses on increasing the resilience of livelihoods in rural communities facing recurrent crises, as well as on economic growth and sustainable development. The Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP) was created to enable FAO to make its know-how and technical expertise available to member countries upon request, drawing from its own resources. The TCP provides assistance in all areas pertaining to FAO’s mandate and competence that are covered by the Strategic Framework to respond to governments’ priority needs.
