Right to Food Assessment, 2015.

The 4th March 2015, FAO Office in El Salvador and CONASAN organized a National Forum on the Right to Food attended by Civil Society, National Institutions (Ministry of Agriculture, Consumers Ombudsman, Human right attorney, Ministry of Economy, CONASAN and the Superintendence of Competition, Secretariat for Social Inclusion, Technical Secretariat Presidency) and the private sector.

The case study entitled: “Progresses and challenges of the implementation of the Right to Food Guidelines” was launched during the Forum. The experience of El Salvador included in the study was firstly shared at the plenary session on the Ten-Year Retrospective on the Right to Food Guidelines held at the 41st Committee on World Food Security session
[see related section here].

The case of El Salvador shows that, despite limited resources,
it is possible to take concrete steps towards renewed implementation agenda of national public policies, by building long-term social capacity to progressively eradicate hunger, malnutrition and food inequality.

The following projects contributed to the making of the case study: GCP/GLO/324/NOR “Integrating the Right to Adequate Food and Good Governance in National Policies, Legislation and Institutions (Right to Food at Country Level), financed by the Government of Norway; the “Iniciativa América Latina y el Caribe sin Hambre 2025”, financed by the Government of Spain and Brasil, GCP/RLA/193/BRA “Apoyo a las Estrategias Nacionales y Subregionales de Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional y de superación de la Pobreza”, and TCP/ELS/3501 “Fortalecimiento de la SAN y la Agricultura Familiar con enfoque de derecho”.
