Workshop report available: Enhancing efficiency and effectiveness of agrifood chains in Eastern Europe and Central Asia

The FAO workshop on “Enhancing Efficiency and Effectiveness of Agrifood Chains in Eastern Europe and Central Asia” took place in June 2015 in Porec, Croatia as part of the AGRIMBA Network congress on “Smart Agribusiness for the Society of Tomorrow”. The workshop served as a platform where regional experiences in the development of agrifood chains were discussed, lessons were shared and recommendations were made to improve the effectiveness of promotion initiatives in the agrifood sector by governments and development organizations. Areas and topics of special interest for discussion included: i) value chain coordination and agrifood sector competitiveness; ii) business models for improved inclusion of small family farms in value chains; iii) public–private partnerships and inclusiveness in agrifood chains; iv) reduction of food losses and waste for improved agrifood chain efficiency; and v) the enabling environment and development of agro-industrial strategies.
