New UN report on investments needed to achieve Zero Hunger
Rome time
On 10 July 2015 the three Rome-based UN food agencies – the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the UN World Food Programme (WFP) – will release a new report: Achieving Zero Hunger: The Critical Role of Investments in Social Protection and Agriculture.
The eradication by 2030 of global hunger – which today still affects almost 800 million people – is at the heart of the Zero Hunger Campaign promoted by the UN Secretary-General and is expected to be part of the new Sustainable Development Goals to be adopted by the international community later this year.
The report provides estimates of the investment costs required to achieve hunger eradication, with a particular focus on social protection combined with investments.
