The event is organized on the occasion of the WORLD FISHERIES DAY. On the day dedicated to the men and women who depend on fisheries for their livelihoods, FAO and the Holy See are calling for an end to any form of modern-day slavery, and a commitment to ensure fair working conditions to those working in fisheries around the globe. For the first time, the annual message delivered on this day to fishermen and fisherwomen by the Holy See will be delivered at FAO.
