Bangladesh National Herbarium (BNH)
Bangladesh
Bangladesh National Herbarium (BNH) is a national institution for the conservation of dry plant specimens and taxonomic research, including all the information obtained through field surveys on the plant species of the country. The National Herbarium collects, identifies, classifies and preserves, through thorough research, samples of all plant species including flowers and fruits from every region of the country, along with information related to their abundance, location, traditional uses and future prospects, etc., in a scientific manner. All those specimens preserved in the herbarium are one of the foundations for the accurate identification and evaluation of indigenous plant species and diversity. Plant specimens preserved in the herbarium are used as national resources for generations as reference material for hundreds to thousands of years. Herbarium plays an important role in the practice of botany, research on endangered plant species including agricultural, forestry, herbal resources, environmental and habitat conservation, and determining statistics on the plant diversity of the country.
