Reporting errors to FAO AGRIS

Improving data quality: your role in reporting errors within the FAO AGRIS system

In a world of ever-increasing data and information, accuracy is paramount. Ensuring error-free data entry and recording is essential for guaranteeing the quality and reliability of knowledge research and dissemination. The FAO AGRIS system recognizes the importance of error detection and correction. Therefore, data providers worldwide are encouraged to actively participate in this process.

Why it's important to report mistakes

Accurate and reliable data are the foundation of quality research, innovation, and informed decision-making. Errors in data can lead to misunderstandings, misinterpretations, and compromised conclusions. By reporting them, data providers play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the FAO AGRIS ecosystem.

How you can contribute

Reporting errors is a collaborative effort that strengthens the FAO AGRIS network. If you find any inaccuracies, inconsistencies, or errors in data entries or records, we encourage you to report them to us. Your diligence and commitment to data accuracy can have a significant impact on the quality of information made available to researchers, policymakers, and practitioners worldwide.

Types of errors

The following types of errors or problems have already been reported by data providers, but this list is not exhaustive:

  • Data errors: These are issues related to the accuracy and completeness of the data. Data providers can report metadata errors, request corrections to data entries, or inquire about missing metadata.
  • Collection placement errors: Data providers may wonder why some of their records are not appearing in their assigned collections.
  • Duplicates: While not strictly errors, data providers may inquire about records appearing in collections other than their own due to duplicates.

Now, let's explore how you can report these errors.

How to report errors

Reporting errors to FAO AGRIS is a simple process. Just send an email to [email protected] detailing the error you have identified. Be sure to include:

1. Nature of the error :

Describe the type of error you encountered, e.g., metadata error, missing information, duplicate entry, etc.

2. Details :

Data entry/Record title: Enter the title or name of the record containing the error.

Data provider ID (ARN): Enter your data provider ID or ARN, if available.

Link to issue: If applicable, provide a direct link to the record in question.

3. Evidence to support :

Attach or mention any supporting documentation, such as screenshots, that confirms the error and helps resolve it.

Your contribution is important! If you find any errors or inaccuracies in our records, please report them. Together, we can uphold FAO AGRIS's commitment to data accuracy and integrity by continuously improving the quality of information we provide to users worldwide.
