The Botanical Institute of Barcelona (IBB) is a joint centre formed by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Consortium Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona. The IBB was founded in 1934 and the first intervention of the CSIC occurred in 1942, when a position of titular Scientist was created occupied by Pius Font Quer. In 1986, the IBB was established as an associated centre and, a year later, the first titular Scientist of the modern stage of the IBB was incorporated. In 1998, a decision was taken to sign a new agreement with the Barcelona City Council, under which it rose to the category of a mixed centre.
