Instituto de Ciencias del Mar (ICIMAR)
The Institute of Marine Sciences (ICIMAR), founded on 17 February 2017, through the merger of the Centre for Marine Bioproducts (CEBIMAR) and the Institute of Oceanology (IDO), is an entity subordinated to the Environment Agency, belonging to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment. The ICIMAR will strengthen marine research in the country aimed at the sustainable use of marine resources on a consolidated scientific basis.
To carry out research aimed at developing the scientific bases for the knowledge, management, conservation, sustainable use and rehabilitation of the resources and natural processes of the marine and coastal zone, as well as the commercialisation of oceanographic and biological services and products, and biomedical and industrial applications for the solution of environmental, social and economic problems.
A competitive research and innovation centre in marine sciences, conservation and sustainable management of natural resources, which satisfies the needs inherent to the sustainable development of the country.
