En 1967 fue fundado el Centro Experimental del Tabaco en San Antonio de los Baños, actual provincia Artemisa. Su espacio de actuación abarca temas de mejoramiento genético, fitotecnia y control fitosanitario, suelos y agroquímicos, fisiología, fitopatología y tecnologías agrícolas, preindustrial e industrial del tabaco.
