The A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Институт проблем экологии и эволюции им. А.Н. Северцова Российской Академии наук) was established in 1934 on the basis of the Laboratory of Evolutionary Morphology, founded by the renowned Russian scientist Academician Alexei Nikolaevich Severtsov, who also served as its first director.
The Institute focuses on the general and specific ecology of animals, biodiversity, animal behavior, and evolutionary morphology, and it develops recommendations for nature conservation.
