The Brazilian Meteorological Society was created in 1958 to unite meteorologists, regulate the profession, and encourage the development of meteorology and specialized personnel in Brazil. SBMET is a technical-scientific association of professional meteorologists, with unlimited duration, non-profit status, and registered in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
