The institute develops the scientific basis for the sustainable use of the Baltic Sea fishery resources by the EU. Only stocks with a healthy age structure and stable productivity can be used sensibly in the long term. At the same time, the negative impacts of fishing on the ecosystem must be minimized. The work of the OSF is integrated into international research programs and conventions.
