The Universidad Juárez del Estado de Durango traces its origins to the Instituto Juárez, founded in 1856, which aimed to provide secondary and higher education in Durango. Over time, it evolved into a full university and now operates autonomously as the main public higher education institution in the state.
The mission of UJED is to transform society, through the integral training of baccalaureates, professionals, scientists, creators and citizens aware of their social responsibility, promoting scientific research and innovation in knowledge, linking and university extension. To be a public, autonomous, secular, inclusive institution that generates culture and sport in an integral way to contribute to a solid university training, respectful of diversity, with humanist principles, committed to equity and social justice, attentive to the relevant expansion of educational supply and coverage, enhancing technologies as a trigger for regional development within the framework of a globalized world.
