AGRIS is Designated as a Digital Public Good by the DPGA!

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is proud to announce that AGRIS, the International System for Agricultural Science and Technology, has earned Digital Public Good (DPG) certification from the Digital Public Good Alliance (DPGA). This certification underscores AGRIS's vital role in advancing sustainable agrifood systems and contributing to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The DPG certification confirms that AGRIS meets rigorous standards of openness, interoperability, and adherence to the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable). It emphasizes AGRIS's commitment to equitable access to high-quality agricultural knowledge, fostering collaboration, and supporting evidence-based decision-making globally.

Since joining the DPGA in May 2022, FAO has championed digital public goods that facilitate the discovery, development, and use of open-source technologies. In 2023, FAO's AGROVOC thesaurus also earned DPG recognition, further demonstrating this commitment.

Looking Ahead

The DPG certification of AGRIS is a testament to the collective efforts of FAO, data providers, and partners worldwide. FAO will continue to enhance AGRIS's capabilities, expanding its reach, and ensuring it remains an indispensable resource for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners in sustainable agriculture.
