FAO Releases AGRIS Open Data Set to Enhance Global Access to Agricultural Knowledge

AGRIS

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is pleased to launch the AGRIS Open Data Set (ODS) release, a major initiative designed to enhance the visibility of global access to critical agricultural knowledge produced within the AGRIS Network. Through the FAO International System for Agricultural Science and Technology (AGRIS), this effort aims to promote the reuse of research outputs and the sharing of knowledge, essential for achieving various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The AGRIS ODS comprises about half of the records in the AGRIS database, including over 13 million bibliographic records and links to full texts. Licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC-BY-4.0), this data is freely accessible worldwide.

The metadata has been meticulously prepared, adhering to standards such as Dublin Core and W3C Data Catalog schemas, ensuring it is findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR principles). The dataset includes books, journal articles, monographs, and grey literature, making it a comprehensive resource for agricultural research. It is actively used by institutions in over 150 countries, fostering extensive international collaboration and research.

The AGRIS ODS will significantly enhance access to agricultural information, support global collaboration, drive innovation, and inform policymaking. It will also increase the visibility of research outputs, and empower farmers and professionals with the latest agricultural knowledge.
