The International System for Agricultural Science and Technology (AGRIS), managed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), has grown by over one thousand data providers in the last year. To celebrate this expansion, AGRIS highlights key contributors such as the Instituto Nacional de Investigación Agropecuaria (INIA) from Uruguay, whose contributions enrich the global knowledge base and drive innovation in sustainable agriculture.
INIA produces and adapts knowledge and technologies that promote development in Uruguay’s agricultural sector, aligning with national policies, social inclusion, and market needs. Their contributions help ensure that AGRIS remains a dynamic and comprehensive resource for researchers and practitioners worldwide.
The institute works closely with the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries and collaborates extensively with sector institutions, producers, and national and international organizations. This cooperative approach ensures that research is impactful and reaches those who need it the most.
AGRIS Contributions
INIA has contributed over 7,500 records to the AGRIS database, providing access to multiple full-text research documents. Its contributions cover key thematic areas such as rice, sheep, plant breeding (fitojmejoramiento), plant diseases, fertilization, and cattle farming. Discover INIA’s records here.
By focusing on applied research and technology transfer within these systems and thematic areas, INIA addresses critical challenges. Its integrated approach empowers Uruguay’s producers and strengthens the country’s position as a leader in agricultural development.
AGRIS celebrates its 50th anniversary by highlighting the efforts of outstanding data providers like INIA, whose research results support the transformation of the agrifood system into a more sustainable, resilient, inclusive, and productive one.
