Metadata Matters: Enhancing Metadata Standards & OAI-PMH Compliance

09/12/2025

FAO AGRIS hosted a webinar dedicated to enhancing the quality, interoperability, and accessibility of agricultural knowledge through the use of metadata standards and OAI-PMH compliance for current and prospective FAO AGRIS Data Providers.

As a global information system for agriculture and allied sciences - FAO AGRIS relies on  structured and standardized metadata to offer open access to a vast and diverse collection of bibliographic records from around the globe.

This webinar helped participants to understand FAO AGRIS metadata requirements and how they support discoverability; the OAI-PMH protocol and how it facilitates metadata harvesting from institutional repositories and open access journals; how to prepare repositories for FAO AGRIS integration, including metadata formatting and endpoint validation; and tools and resources provided by FAO to support new FAO AGRIS data providers.
