The AMR Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Platform was featured at the 90th Annual General Session of the World Assembly of Delegates of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) that was held in person in Paris on May 21–25.

With more than 1,000 participants, including representatives from the Ministries and Departments of Agriculture, Animal Health, and Welfare from across the world, this event enabled the Quadripartite organisations (the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH)) to showcase their collaborative work on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) under the One Health umbrella through engagement with the Delegates and Chief Veterinary Officers.

Maria Helena Semedo, FAO Deputy Director-General, highlighted the need for private-public partnerships and collaborative efforts to address global health issues, including AMR, at the official Opening Ceremony of the General Session. The AMR Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Platform is the mechanism that can harness and catalyse this global movement and mindset change in addressing AMR. She invited participants to discover the Platform at the AMR kiosk, set-up by WOAH as part of the General Session.

The AMR Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Platform attracted a lot of interest from participants who were eager to discover this new global collaborative and inclusive mechanism that aims to promote collective efforts and catalyse global movement on AMR under a One Health approach. Participants were interested in learning more about its multi-stakeholder, inter-sectoral, and multi-disciplinary approach, as well as the possibility to gain and share knowledge, network with peers, and jointly reinforce capacities and skills, while co-creating solutions and exploring avenues for building synergies and scaling up their current initiatives and projects on addressing AMR.

The bottom-up approach that will drive the formation of the platform’s action groups was of particular interest to many participants, as it will enable members to come up with and collaborate with peers on shared needs, priorities, and areas of interest, thus benefitting from the global collective intelligence on AMR and building new alliances, partnerships, and a better understanding of the AMR challenges at the global level.

The AMR Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Platform was established in November 2022 during World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) and is facilitated by the Quadripartite organisations with generous support from the European Commission. It is onboarding stakeholders now with the soon-to-be-announced first cohort of members.
