FAO in Cameroon
The FAO Representation in Cameroon was established on September 2, 1978, with the signing of the Headquarters Agreement. However, Cameroon has been a member since 1960. The office has been a Liaison and Partnership Office since September 4, 2015.
Over the years, FAO's technical and financial support to Cameroon has focused on the national implementation of the Special Program for Food Security and strengthening national capacities for the formulation of food and agriculture policies and projects. Today, a key feature of this cooperation is resilience building, which encompasses measures to address natural disasters, the influx of refugees from neighboring countries, the socio-political crisis in the Northwest and Southwest regions, the effects of climate change, and Boko Haram incursions into the Far North of the country.
Current projects contribute to the priority areas of the 2022-2026 Country Programming Framework (CPF). The CPF is aligned with national priorities, including the National Development Strategy 2020-2030 (NDS 30) and the Rural Sector Development Strategy (RSDS/PNIA 2020-2030). The CPF also takes into account global priorities, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2021-2025 (UNSDCF), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the FAO Strategic Framework for the period 2022-2031 through the adoption of the "Best 4" and the COP26 resolutions on climate change.
The 2022-2026 CPP has four outcomes:
Conditions favorable to economic growth and the accumulation of national wealth are established, and the implementation of the CPP contributes to achieving the structural changes essential for the country's industrialization.
The living conditions of the population and their access to basic social services are improved, ensuring a significant reduction in poverty and underemployment.
Governance is improved to strengthen the performance of public action to achieve development objectives.
Measures to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change and environmental management are strengthened.
