Welcome to the Global Library of Trees and Flowers – FAO Park 

Nestled in Rome’s Villa Doria Pamphilj park, an exciting and innovative initiative is coming to life: the Global Library of Trees and Flowers – FAO Park. This collaborative effort between FAO, Roma Capitale, and the support of Sovraintendenza, Coldiretti/Assofloro, Festival del Verde e del Paesaggio, and OSA is dedicated to cultivating sustainable practices and fostering global unity.

Sprawling over 2.5 hectares, the park is flourishing with over a hundred newly planted trees and plants, representing diverse regions around the world. This project highlights the importance of collaboration in addressing global challenges, highlighting that together we can make a difference.

Inauguration of the FAO Park educational itinerary on 24 April

On April 24, a special ceremony launched the Global Library of Trees and Flowers – FAO Park initiative’s second phase, by allowing visitors to follow an educational itinerary through the FAO Park web app. The event included a special tree planting activity and saw the participation of FAO Director-General QU Dongyu, Roberto Gualtieri, Mayor of Rome, and Sabrina Alfonsi, Councillor for Agriculture, Environment and Waste Cycle of the Municipality of Rome. 

As part of the event, students representing different schools in the Rome area joined the event with their teachers while FAO forestry experts were on hand to provide guidance and information to the students as they started using the new web app.

Location

Rome's Villa Doria Pamphilj Park is a sprawling urban oasis covering 184 hectares. It is the largest park in the city and is home to one of the best-preserved Roman villas in the city, the Villa Doria Pamphilj. On these grounds, history, art, and sustainability are intertwined. Throughout the centuries, it has retained its seventeenth-century allure and the distinctive elements of the 1700s and 1800s, offering a timeless journey through the ages.

Plan your visit to the park. It be easily reached from Via Leone XIII, Largo Martin Luther King. It is accessible by car and with the 180F, 31, 791, 982 and H bus lines.
