World Food Safety Day observed in Bangalore, India

Food Safety Works, a food safety consulting company dedicated to improving food safety observed World Food Safety Day 2023 with a line-up of activities across its business clients, schools and community as a whole to create awareness on the importance of food standards for safer food. The set of activities panned from the 6 to 9June with awards for various competitions being awarded towards the end of June 2023.

On 7 June, Food Safety Works kicked of a host of activities starting off a series of Awareness Workshops  and Food Adulteration Test demonstrations across the community :

Online Awareness Workshops

  • A free webinar, open to the student community on the regulatory aspects of food safety trends and best practices. The webinar was conducted on the Academy platform (the session can be accessed here : https://academy.foodsafetyworks.com/courses/Food-Safety-Regulation-in-India-6461ba67e4b08ceb88376c52 ) of Food Safety Works
  • A free webinar on the role of food standards for safer food for the community. This webinar was conducted by the Managing Director of Food Safety Works, Ms Sarika Agarwal . This webinar can be accessed at https://youtube.com/live/FxzRNz-EMPk
  • Distribution of Detect Adulteration with Rapid Test (DART) booklet (published by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) electronically - The DART booklet is a compilation of typical rapid tests for individuals to do at home to identify food adulterants and raise consumer awareness of food safety. DART includes more than 50 tests that can be completed quickly and simply at home using water and inexpensive solutions such tinctures of iodine for foods like milk and milk products, oils and fats, sugar and confectionery, food grains and their products, spices and condiments, etc. Sensory assessment tests are also a part of these tests, which are used to verify food items' authenticity. DART uses visual representations to illustrate the distinctions between pure and contaminated food products. The DAR booklet can be accessed here: https://bit.ly/DARTBooklet
  • Quiz Competition: The Food Safety Quiz was announced by Food Safety Works conducted  from 5 June. Questions will cover general hygiene practices, hazards, regulations, and allergens. Participants can take the quiz at the link : https://bit.ly/WFSD2023_QUIZ . The winners will be announced by 29 June.  The  winners receive a certificate and a goodie bag  commemorating World Food Safety Day.
  • Poster Competition for the School Students: Food Safety Works creates awareness about the importance of food-related issues from a young age. Keeping with the spirit of “catching them young”, they invite school students from across India to participate in a Poster Design Contest on Food Safety on the occasion of World Food Safety Day. Students were invited to be at their creative best and upload their entries (digitals , paintings or sketches) on our platform (Link https://bit.ly/WFSD2023_POSTER), or hand it over to our representatives at different locations. Students were encouraged to submit their entries under the following categories.
    • Cat.1 – 6th to 8th Standard students
    • Cat .2 – 9th and 10th Standard Students
    • Cat .3- 11th and 12th standard Students
  • Food Adulteration Demonstration across various communities. Food adulteration is a major problem in India. It is estimated that up to 70 percent of food products in the country are adulterated. This can have serious health consequences for consumers, including food poisoning, malnutrition, and even death. Food Safety Works conducted a Food Adulteration Tests demonstration in the community using simple adulteration tests. The tests covered a wide range of food products, including milk, oil, sugar, spices, and food grains. The tests are easy to perform and require no special equipment.
  • Video Making and Slogan Competition. Food Safety Works also organized a short video making and slogan writing competition on the occasion of World Food Safety Day 2023. The competition is open to all students, teachers, and professionals in India. The theme of the competition was in line with the World Food Safety Day theme, "Food Standards Save Lives." Participants were invited to make a short video or write a slogan that highlights the importance of food safety standards. The videos and slogans should be creative and informative and would be uploaded to the dedicated page on World Food Safety Day 2023 landing page on the website of Food Safety Works (https://foodsafetyworks.com/world-food-safety-day-2023/) The winning videos and slogans will be featured on the Food Safety Works  website and social media channels. The winners will also receive prizes.
