Forest dependent people are often located in remote and poor areas where livelihood opportunities are limited. Poverty, vulnerability, marginalization and social exclusion are among the major challenges they face. In these contexts, forests often serve as a safety net to cope with crises, which can lead to the unsustainable management of forest resources. What is the role of social protection in promoting and protecting the livelihood of forest-dependent people?

The purpose of this cross-regional online discussion is to offer stakeholders an opportunity to share their experience, knowledge and regional good practices on strengthening Agricultural Innovation Systems in the Central Asia and Caucasus (CAC) countries and China. The outcomes of the online-discussions will feed into face-to-face consultation on the Roadmap to enhance Rural Advisory Service systems in CAC countries and China to be organized as a side event at the 6^th Annual Meeting of the Global Forum for Rural Advisory Services.

The goal of this consultation is to identify potential ideas of innovations in agriculture that could promote better nutrition.

FAO and UNEP are jointly developing a programme on sustainable food systems under the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (10YFP). As part of this process, a public consultation is being organized in order to take stock of relevant information on initiatives, collect comments of a draft concpt note and collect expressions of interest of entities to participate in the Programme.

Climate change directly affects food and nutrition security of millions of people, undermining current efforts to address undernutrition. It impacts people’s livelihoods and lifestyles through different pathways, hitting the poorest the hardest. The objective of this consultation is to gain a better understanding of the impact of climate change and to identify possible measures to protect and/or improve nutrition. 

At its 41^st session in October 2014, the CFS has requested the HLPE to prepare a study on Sustainable Forestry for Food Security and Nutrition, to feed into CFS debates at the CFS Plenary session of October 2017.

As part of its report elaboration process, the HLPE is launching an e-consultation to seek views and comments on the following scope and building blocks of the report, outlined below, as proposed by the HLPE Steering Committee.
