I am working on:
Working on an EPSRC (Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council) funded, multidisciplinary project (Digital Equitable CIrcular FooD systEms) to design a digital hub for circular food systems in the UK. Academic Lead on a partnership between the Centre for Equitable and Inclusive Food Systems at the University of Nottingham's Food Systems Institute and the advocacy charity Foodrise. Delivering Sustainable Food Systems research at the Advanced Food Innovation Centre (AFIC), a National Centre of Excellence located on Sheffield Hallam University's ( College of Business, Technology and Engineering) Health Innovation Campus. Working on the South Yorkshire Sustainability Centre’s Developing Sustainable Food Systems project.

After completing his doctoral research in Agricultural Economics and Environmental Management at INRAE in France, Zakary held various roles focusing on sustainable food systems and economic modelling. These included a position as a research economist at AFBI in Northern Ireland, where he contributed to the FAPRI UK project, and a postdoctoral fellowship at Laval University in Canada. He also served as a key economic expert on the OneFood project while consulting with CABI (formerly the Commonwealth Agricultural Bureau) in England. He began his academic career in the UK with a special appointment as an honorary researcher at the University of Liverpool, followed by a position as a food systems sustainability researcher at Sheffield Hallam University. He then joined Nottingham University Business School. His research focuses on integrating economic, biological and social systems to design effective policies and strategies within the energy, food and agriculture sectors.
