International Women’s Day 2021
Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world

The International Women's Day is a day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, while also making a call to action to strengthen gender equality and accelerate women’s empowerment.
This year’s theme “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world” celebrates the efforts of women and girls around the world to shape a more equitable future and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected women and exacerbated existing vulnerabilities by reducing their economic opportunities and access to nutritious foods while at the same time increasing their workloads and escalating gender-based violence. Today, the Rome-based Agencies pay tribute to women leaders, young and old, from different socio-economic backgrounds who work to lead the change, build back equitably, strengthen resilience and improve decision-making processes for the benefit of all.
