Nepal: Coping with Climate Change, Addressing Migration

More than 50 percent of households in the Arghakhanchi district of western Nepal have a family member that has migrated for work. The majority of those who migrate are men, while women remain on the front line of climate change.

To assist the farmers of Arghakhanchi, FAO supports 30 Farmer Field Schools in the district, benefitting over 800 women who are learning new farming practices to combat climate change. “This kind of programme needs to continue so we can learn more adpative ways,” says Rupa Thapa, one of the women farmers. “I hope one day we can create a good environment so our husbands can come home and work back in their homeland and be with their families.”
