Brussels/Geneva/New York/Rome - The FAO Liaison Offices in New York, Brussels and Geneva together with FAO’s Office of Climate Change, Biodiversity and Environment and the Division of Land and Water held a briefing on the upcoming Rio Convention’s ‘triple Conferences of the Parties’in 2024. The briefing, moderated by Dominique Burgeon, Director of the FAO Liaison Office in Geneva, was an opportunity to showcase how agrifood systems can tackle the multiple interlinked challenges, such as climate change, biodiversity loss, land degradation, food insecurity and poverty.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Geneva, in collaboration with FAO’s Rural Transformation and Gender Equality Division and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), organized the seventh edition of the Social Protection Dialogue Series, sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Brazil. In the context of the 20th anniversary of the FAO Voluntary Guidelines this year, the dialogue focused on “The Human Right to Adequate Food”, featuring a diverse panel including Permanent Representatives, NGOs, and academia.

Kicking off the World Food Forum (WFF) Flagship Event 2024, on 14 October 2024, the FAO Liaison offices in Brussels (LOB) and Geneva (LOG) collaborated on a joint virtual side event “Women and Girls’ Empowerment Leading the Change in Agrifood Systems”, including an interactive consultation where participants contributed ideas, solutions, and initiatives to address the gender gap in the agrifood systems.

World Food Week 2024 in Switzerland brought together global themes from World Food Day and the World Food Forum (WFF), uniting efforts to raise awareness on food rights and build sustainable agrifood systems. Celebrations focused on ensuring World Food Day’s theme "The Right to Foods for a Better Life and a Better Future" and supporting World Food Forum’s message "Good Food for All, for Today and Tomorrow".

Amid the alarming global spread of the H5N1 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) and its evolution in wild birds and mammals, a special episode of the One Health Dialogue Series brought together key stakeholders to discuss avian influenza preparedness and response strategies. The webinar brought together participants from Permanent Missions, UN agencies, NGOs and academic institutions, and provided an opportunity to share the latest scientific findings and knowledge and highlight the contributions of FAO and its partners in the global pandemic risk reduction efforts.
