Emergency and resilience: Mapping the impact of war on agriculture in Ukraine

FAO’s Geospatial Unit is mapping the impact of the war on Ukraine’s agriculture using satellite imagery, geospatial analysis and field information. The work documents direct soil disturbance such as craters, estimates displaced soil volumes, and flags areas with potential contamination and mine risk for further investigation.

It also analyses seasonal land-use change, including shifts in cropland extent, crop types and fallow or abandoned land, and relates these patterns to conflict intensity over time. Recent reports cover Kharkiv. Additional analyses, including Kherson and Mykolaiv, are underway.
