When countries come together—sharing resources, knowledge, and technical expertise—they can more powerfully confront urgent global challenges like deforestation and forest degradation. Through regional collaboration, nations are aligning forest data collection methods, building institutional and technical capacity, and significantly improving the accuracy, consistency and transparency of forest information.
Across Latin America, the Caribbean, the Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America, national forest inventory networks are leading this transformation. These regional initiatives are not only advancing forest data transparency but are also strengthening countries’ ability to meet national and international forest reporting obligations.
This side event will demonstrate the role of NFI networks in improving the consistency, transparency, and comparability of forest information for evidence-based decision making. It will highlight the benefits of regional collaboration, showcasing how the NFI networks support knowledge exchange, harmonization of data and methods, and increase synergies in capacity development. It will also encourage broader engagement of the forest monitoring community with these networks.
