The Programme
AdriaMed is an FAO-implemented programme funded by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests (MASAF) that promotes cooperation for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture between the Adriatic Sea bordering countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, and Slovenia). AdriaMed is aimed at enhancing country capacities to develop and manage fisheries and aquaculture as integrated food systems, while fostering sustainable, resilient and gender-responsive, and inclusive practices at local, regional, and global levels. This also ensures resilience to climate change and other natural and human-made disasters.
Building on lessons learned from the past, the Programme focuses on bridging science and fisheries and aquaculture management for strengthened governance, while addressing challenges like climate change and environmental friendly approaches .
AdriaMed contributes to FAO's vision for the Blue Transformation of aquatic food systems for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind.
AdriaMed contributes to the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, especially the fulfilment of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14 on the conservation of the world’s ocean, seas and marine resources and of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2.

The EU–FAO partnership has since been sound and growing, as evidenced by the upward trend of the EU’s voluntary contributions1 in recent years.
